Latin Funk
Latin funk is a hybrid style that fuses the hard-driving grooves of American funk and soul with Afro‑Latin and Caribbean rhythms such as boogaloo, salsa, and son cubano. It typically features syncopated bass lines, backbeat‑heavy drums, and a layered Latin percussion section of congas, timbales, bongos, cowbell, and güiro. Horns play a central role, supplying tight stabs, call‑and‑response riffs, and montuno‑like figures alongside guitar guajeos, wah‑wah textures, and clavinet or electric piano vamps. Vocals may be in Spanish, English, or Spanglish, often reflecting urban Latino life and dance‑floor culture. The result is a festive, danceable sound that is both gritty and polished, rooted in barrio street funk yet rich in Latin rhythmic sophistication.

Funk Rock
Funk rock is a hybrid style that fuses the syncopated grooves, percussive rhythm guitar, and deep pocket of funk with the distorted riffs, power, and song forms of rock. Typical tracks feature tight, 16th‑note rhythmic interplay between bass, drums, and rhythm guitar, while lead guitars and vocals deliver rock’s edge and attitude. The harmony often stays close to dominant 7th (Mixolydian) colors and blues vocabulary, keeping the groove front and center. The style ranges from psychedelic and P‑Funk‑inflected experiments of the late 1960s and 1970s to the punchy alternative and crossover sounds of the 1980s and 1990s, and it continues to inform dance‑oriented rock and genre‑blending bands today.

Cueca
Cueca is a family of folk songs and partner dances from the Southern Cone, most strongly associated with Chile (where it is the official national dance) and with important regional variants in Bolivia and Argentina. Musically it features the characteristic 6/8–3/4 hemiola feel, often heard as a buoyant ternary groove that can shift perceived accents between 6/8 and 3/4. Traditional cuecas are sung in strophic form with refrains, and Chilean cueca texts are commonly organized into 14 lines (a composite stanza, typically parsed 4+7+3) that support the dance’s three-part cycle. Performances usually involve voice(s), guitar(s), accordion, handclaps (palmas), and light percussion such as bombo and the pandero cuequero, with couples circling and playfully courting one another with handkerchiefs.
