Violao Classico
Violão clássico is the Brazilian Portuguese term for the classical guitar tradition: solo and ensemble repertoire performed on a nylon‑string (Spanish) guitar with notated scores, formal concert technique, and aesthetic roots in Western art music. While the modern classical guitar developed in 19th‑century Spain, the “violão” identity crystallized in Brazil through composers and performers who fused European forms (preludes, études, suites) with Brazilian melodies, harmonies, and rhythmic cells. The instrument’s warm timbre, polyphonic potential, and idiomatic right‑hand techniques (apoyando/tirando, arpeggios, tremolo, rasgueado) make it a complete orchestra in miniature. In Brazil, this tradition both preserves the canon (from Renaissance/Baroque transcriptions to Romantic originals) and expands it with a distinctive national voice.

Classical Flute
Classical flute refers to the Western art‑music repertoire and performance practice centered on the transverse concert flute, from the Baroque era through the Classical, Romantic, and modern periods. The genre encompasses solo literature (sonatas, partitas, fantasies), concertos with orchestra, chamber music with strings, piano, or harp, and orchestral parts where the flute often carries lyrical lines or brilliant passagework. Stylistically, it ranges from the ornate ornamentation of the Baroque traverso to the clear, balanced phrasing of the Classical era, the expressive cantabile and coloristic writing of the Romantic period, and the expanded timbral and technical palette of the 20th and 21st centuries. Technically, the modern Boehm‑system flute (standardized in the 19th century) supports agile articulation, wide dynamic range, and extended techniques, enabling composers to treat the instrument as both a singing voice and a virtuoso vehicle.

Chamber Music
Chamber music is a tradition of composed music for small ensembles—typically one player per part—intended for intimate spaces such as courts, salons, and private rooms rather than large public halls. Its aesthetic emphasizes clarity of texture, conversational interplay among parts, and balance without a conductor. Hallmark formations include the string quartet, piano trio, wind quintet, string quintet, and various mixed ensembles. Multi‑movement cycles (often in sonata form) and finely wrought counterpoint are common, ranging from Baroque trio sonatas to Classical string quartets and modern works with expanded timbres and techniques. Because of its scale and transparency, chamber music has long been a proving ground for compositional craft and ensemble musicianship, shaping the core of Western art music from the Baroque through the present.

Baroque Woodwind
Baroque woodwind refers to the repertoire, instruments, and performance practices for wind instruments during the Baroque era (ca. 1600–1750). Core instruments include the recorder (blockflute), the one-keyed transverse flute (traverso), the Baroque oboe (hautbois), and the bassoon (evolving from the dulcian). These instruments were built with different bores, fingerings, and reeds from modern counterparts, yielding a more vocal, reedy, and delicately colored sound. The style embraces solo sonatas with basso continuo, trio sonatas, orchestral suites, and concerti—often framed by dance-derived forms and ritornello structures. Ornamentation (agréments), rhetorical phrasing, notes inégales (in French contexts), and affect-driven articulation are essential, along with historically typical pitch (often around A=415) and well/meantone temperaments.

Recorder
Recorder is a family of end-blown fipple flutes (sopranino, soprano, alto/treble, tenor, bass and beyond) prized for their pure, flexible tone and agile articulation. Readily identifiable by a whistle-like mouthpiece and finger holes (with forked fingerings for chromatic notes), the instrument can sound intimate and speech-like or bright and penetrating, depending on size and technique. As a repertory tag, “recorder” centers on music written for or featuring the recorder across Renaissance and Baroque traditions, as well as 20th–21st century revivals. It spans solo fantasias and sonatas, concerti with basso continuo or orchestra, chamber consort music, and contemporary works using extended techniques. Historically informed performance practice is common, but modern composers also exploit the instrument’s unique colors in new idioms.

Classical
Classical music is the notated art-music tradition of Europe and its global descendants, characterized by durable forms, carefully codified harmony and counterpoint, and a literate score-based practice. The term “classical” can refer broadly to the entire Western art-music lineage from the Medieval era to today, not just the Classical period (c. 1750s–1820s). It privileges long-form structures (such as symphonies, sonatas, concertos, masses, and operas), functional or modal harmony, thematic development, and timbral nuance across ensembles ranging from solo instruments to full orchestras and choirs. Across centuries, the style evolved from chant and modal polyphony to tonal harmony, and later to post-tonal idioms, while maintaining a shared emphasis on written notation, performance practice, and craft.
