Tamborera
Tamborera is a Panamanian popular style that blends the Afro-Panamanian drum-driven tamborito tradition with the romantic, orchestrated feel of Cuban bolero and danzón. Built around lively hand-drum patterns and call-and-response singing, tamborera places those folk elements inside an urban dance‑band or big‑band setting with horns, strings, and polished arrangements. The result is a festive yet elegant sound: simultaneously suitable for patriotic celebrations and ballroom dancing, and just as comfortable carrying romantic lyrics as it is celebrating local customs and pride.

Calypso
Calypso is an Afro‑Caribbean vocal music and dance style that originated in Trinidad and Tobago among Afro‑Trinidadians. It blends West African kaiso traditions and French Creole carnival song practices into a witty, topical song form built for public performance and communal participation. Musically, calypso is typically in 2/4 or 4/4 with a lilting, syncopated "calypso rhythm" that often accents a 3‑3‑2 feel across the bar. Melodies favor catchy, singable refrains, call‑and‑response, and verse–chorus structures. Instrumentation historically included tamboo‑bamboo and hand percussion, then small dance bands with guitar, cuatro, upright bass, brass, and later steelpan and full brass/engine‑room sections. Lyrically, calypso is renowned for picong (good‑humored verbal sparring), double entendre, social and political commentary, and news‑of‑the‑day storytelling delivered by charismatic calypsonians in tents and at carnival.

Tamborito
Tamborito (literally “little drum”) is a traditional Panamanian folk music-and-dance genre with Afro‑Iberian roots. It features a female lead singer (cantadora) answered by a women’s chorus in lively call‑and‑response over a trio of hand‑played drums, vigorous clapping, and shouts. Socially, it is a romantic couple’s dance performed inside a circle formed by an interactive crowd who often add handclaps, choral refrains, and percussive accents. Performers typically wear formal folk costumes (pollera for women, montuno for men). Tamborito is most associated with community festivities—especially Carnival—and survives as a living emblem of Panamanian identity. Closely related versions are also known in parts of neighboring Colombia, reflecting centuries of regional exchange.
