Chillstep
Chillstep is a mellow, melodic offshoot of dubstep that emphasizes atmosphere, emotion, and cinematic sound design over aggressive bass modulation. It retains dubstep’s half-time rhythmic feel but replaces abrasive wobbles with warm subs, airy pads, and gently evolving textures. Typical tracks sit around 140 BPM (often felt as a spacious 70 BPM half-time groove), blending downtempo pacing with ambient spaciousness. You’ll often hear reverb-laden vocals, delicate piano or guitar lines, soft arpeggios, and field recordings, all arranged to create a soothing, introspective mood rather than a dancefloor peak.

Witch House
Witch house is an occult‑themed, nocturnal strain of dark electronic music that emerged in the late 2000s and early 2010s. It blends slow, hip hop–derived drum programming with droning, dense synthesizers, layered bass, and high‑pitched or detuned keyboard motifs. The style is defined by heavily processed, often indiscernible vocals, obscure or horror‑leaning samples, and a hazy, lo‑fi atmosphere. Aesthetically it draws on goth and horror iconography—triangles, Unicode symbols, VHS decay—and favors a murky, ritualistic mood over club‑ready shine.

Friese Bries
Friese bries is a mid‑1980s regional scene from the Dutch province of Friesland (Fryslân) defined by a collision of punk energy and new‑wave/post‑punk atmospherics. Bands favored taut, angular guitars, driving bass lines, and snare‑forward drumming, sometimes offset by chorus‑ or flanger‑washed textures and occasional drum machines. Lyrics appeared in Frisian, Dutch, or English, with themes ranging from small‑town life and provincial identity to youthful restlessness and wry social commentary. The term was used by Dutch music press to describe a breeze (“bries”) of demo cassettes, 7‑inches, and LPs that poured out of Friesland’s DIY infrastructure—youth centers, local talent contests, small labels, and college radio—during roughly 1985–1990.

Xian Psych
Xian psych ("Christian psych") is a strand of psychedelic rock and folk that centers explicitly Christian and biblical themes. It uses dreamy, transcendent sonics—fuzzed guitars, reverb-soaked vocals, churchy organs, and spacious tape echoes—to evoke a sense of spiritual awe and inner vision. The style often borrows hymn-like melodies, liturgical cadences, and devotional lyrics, fusing them with the exploratory textures of late‑1960s psychedelia. The result is music that feels simultaneously otherworldly and devotional, portraying faith, prayer, and scripture through surreal, visionary soundscapes.
