Souldies
Souldies is a modern revival of classic lowrider “oldies” soul—slow, tender ballads rooted in 1960s and early-’70s sweet soul and doo‑wop aesthetics, reimagined by a new generation of largely Chicano/Latinx artists in Southern California. Characterized by warm, analog-leaning production, mellow backbeats, honeyed vocal harmonies, and heart‑on‑sleeve lyricism, the style favors mid‑slow tempos, tape‑like saturation, spring/plate reverb, and minimalist yet expressive arrangements. English and Spanish (or Spanglish) lyrics often explore love, longing, devotion, and cruising/lowrider culture. Souldies sits at the intersection of classic soul, rhythm & blues, northern soul selections, and Latin soul, offering a contemporary, community‑centered sound that feels both timeless and newly personal.

Zydeco
Zydeco is a high-energy dance music of the Louisiana Creole community that blends Creole and Cajun traditions with blues, rhythm & blues, boogie‑woogie, and rock and roll. It is distinguished by its driving accordion leads, the metallic scrape of the vest washboard (frottoir), and a tight rhythm section built for two-steps and shuffles. Typically sung in English and Louisiana Creole French (and sometimes in Louisiana French), zydeco features call-and-response hooks, blue notes, and earthy storytelling about love, work, celebration, and community life. Modern bands often add electric guitar, bass, and drum kit, while some retain more traditional button or piano accordion textures. The result is a propulsive, joyful sound designed for packed dance floors.

Cajun
Cajun is the dance-driven traditional music of the Francophone Cajuns of south Louisiana, characterized by driving two-steps, lonesome waltzes, and heartfelt, often nasal-tinged vocals sung in Cajun French and English. Its core sound blends button accordion and fiddle, propelled by guitar, bass, and the metallic pulse of the triangle (tit-fer). Built for social dancing in packed halls, the music emphasizes strong melodic hooks, call-and-response refrains, and sturdy rhythms. Repertoires include up-tempo two-steps in duple meter and lyrical waltzes in triple meter, with instrumental breaks that showcase the accordion’s bellows phrasing and the fiddle’s double-stops and slides. Over time, Cajun incorporated elements from country, blues, and swing while retaining a distinct regional identity.

Second Line
Second line is a participatory parade music and dance tradition from New Orleans in which a brass band (the "main line") leads a moving street procession while revelers fall in behind as the "second line." The sound is built on a distinctive second‑line beat: a rolling, syncopated, press‑roll snare feel over a two‑and‑four backbeat, often inflected by Afro‑Caribbean tresillo/habanera accents. Musically it blends early New Orleans jazz, marching/brass band repertoire, blues, gospel, rhythm & blues, and later funk. Typical instrumentation includes trumpets, trombones, saxophones, sousaphone/tuba, and a two‑person drum line (snare and bass), with call‑and‑response horn riffs, tailgating trombone glissandi, walking or percussive sousaphone lines, and shout choruses designed to energize dancers. The overall feel is celebratory, communal, and mobile—music made to move through the streets.
