Grupera
Grupera is a romantic, keyboard-driven branch of Mexican popular music that blends the songwriting sensibility of the Latin ballad with rhythms and instrumentation from regional styles such as cumbia, ranchera, norteño, mariachi, and bolero. Typically performed by "grupos" (bands) with electric guitars, bass, drums, and prominent synthesizers or electric keyboards, grupera favors melodic hooks, emotive lead vocals, and lush, reverb-heavy production. Songs often alternate between gentle ballads and danceable cumbias or ranchera-derived polkas, all wrapped in pop-friendly arrangements that made the style a radio and chart staple across Mexico and the U.S. Latino market during the 1980s and 1990s.

Norteño-Sax
Norteño-sax (norteño con sax) is a regional Mexican style of norteño distinguished by the prominent use of the saxophone as a lead or co-lead voice alongside the accordion. The core ensemble typically includes saxophone, accordion, bajo sexto, electric bass, and a drum kit, with the sax handling melodies, countermelodies, and bright, brassy hooks. Rhythmically it draws on the same dance meters as classic norteño—polkas in 2/4, waltzes (vals) in 3/4, and redovas/schottisches—delivered with a driving backbeat suited for social dancing. Lyrically it spans love songs and heartbreak ballads to corridos about work, migration, and border life, often delivered in a romantic, polished style that made the subgenre a favorite on both sides of the U.S.–Mexico border.

Musica Queretana
Música queretana refers to the constellation of traditional and popular styles practiced in the Mexican state of Querétaro. It brings together Sierra Gorda huapango/son arribeño trios, wind bands (bandas de viento), mariachi and ranchera repertoires, corridos and polkas/waltzes for fiestas patronales, as well as urban rondallas and estudiantinas linked to local schools and universities. At its core are string-driven forms (violin, jarana huasteca, quinta huapanguera) that use sesquiáltera (the 6/8–3/4 cross‑rhythm) and poetic verse contests, alongside brass‑led banda arrangements for processions and dances, and romantic guitar choirs (rondallas) that color city serenades. The result is a lively, participatory musical culture that moves between rural fandangos and urban serenatas while maintaining a distinctly queretano identity.
