Thall is a hyper-percussive, ultra–low-tuned offshoot of djent and progressive metal popularized by Sweden’s Vildhjarta. The style emphasizes tightly gated, staccato down‑picking; dissonant chord voicings; and lurching, polymetric grooves that drop into sudden rests and accents. Characteristic techniques include rapid release bends, stark contrasts between pitch‑shifted highs and subterranean lows, and the use of lush, reverb‑heavy ambient interludes to heighten tension and reset the ear before the next rhythmic assault. The result is a sound that feels both mechanical and cinematic—aggressive yet spacious.

French pop is the mainstream, melody-forward popular music sung primarily in French that blends the lyrical sophistication of chanson with the hooks, structures, and production of international pop. Its core is songcraft: memorable choruses, clear vocal presence, and arrangements that balance acoustic warmth with electronic gloss. Evolving from the 1960s yé-yé wave, the style absorbed elements of disco, new wave, synth-pop, and later electronic and hip hop production, while retaining a distinctly French sensibility in storytelling, wordplay, and romantic themes. Modern French pop ranges from intimate, soft-pop ballads to sleek electro-pop, but it remains anchored by expressive vocals and concise, radio-ready forms.

Variété française is the mainstream, radio-oriented branch of French popular music. It blends the lyric-centered heritage of chanson with international pop, rock, disco, synth‑pop, and later electronic production, prioritizing memorable melodies, clear diction in French, and polished arrangements. Unlike auteur-driven chanson, variété is typically performer‑centric and chart‑minded, with songs designed for mass appeal, television, and large venues. Over decades it has evolved from orchestra‑backed crooners to glossy synth and guitar productions, and in the 21st century, to sleek, hybrid pop that borrows from dance, R&B, and electronic styles—while retaining a focus on catchy hooks and accessible storytelling.
