Psychokore is a German underground rap substyle rooted in horrorcore but with a distinctly psychological, claustrophobic focus. It blends street-realism with macabre, inner-monologue narratives about paranoia, trauma, dissociation, and violent fantasies. Musically it favors ominous, minor-key instrumentals with cinematic and industrial textures: detuned pianos, choirs, church organs, dissonant strings, and bit-crushed drums. Vocals are intense—often growled or shouted—with pitch-shifting, distortion, and multiple ad‑libs to amplify a sense of unhinged immediacy. The result is a dark, aggressive sound that sits between horror cinema and raw Berlin street rap.

Horrorcore is a subgenre of hip hop defined by its fixation on dark, violent, and occult imagery, delivered through menacing flows, brooding production, and cinematic sound design. It often blurs the line between pulp-horror storytelling and social or psychological commentary, adopting personas that heighten shock value while exploring fear, trauma, or taboo themes. Musically, horrorcore favors minor keys, dissonant intervals, and eerie samples—think detuned pianos, church organs, creaking doors, screams, and snippets from horror films—over hard, bass-heavy drums. The result is an atmosphere that feels claustrophobic and threatening, yet theatrically stylized, evoking the mood of slasher movies and cult horror soundtracks.

German hip hop (Deutschrap) is the localized expression of hip hop culture in the German language and within German-speaking scenes. It merges the foundational elements of rap—MCing, DJing/production, sampling, and street-informed storytelling—with Germany’s linguistic cadence, regional dialects, and social context. The sound has spanned classic boom‑bap and electro-rooted beats, jazz- and soul-sampling “conscious” styles, hard-edged street/gangsta aesthetics, and, since the 2010s, trap- and dancehall-influenced club production with heavy 808s and autotuned hooks. Lyrically, it ranges from political commentary and identity discourse to braggadocio, battle bars, and party anthems.
