L'Étranger

UK jackin is a bass-forward strain of house and UK garage that emerged in the UK during the early 2010s. It blends the swing and shuffle of garage with the chunky, percussive drive of house, emphasizing rubbery low‑end riffs, organ stabs, and chopped R&B or soul vocals. Compared with classic Chicago jackin’ house, the UK variant is darker and punchier, drawing heavily from bassline and UK bass aesthetics. Tracks typically sit around 124–130 BPM, use swung drums and syncopated bass patterns, and are arranged with DJ‑friendly intros, tension‑building breakdowns, and emphatic drops.

Indie dance blends the melodic sensibilities and live‑band ethos of indie rock with the groove, repetition, and production techniques of club music. The result is a dancefloor‑friendly sound that keeps guitars, bass, and vocals in the spotlight while leaning on four‑on‑the‑floor drums, funky basslines, and luminous analog synths. The style typically sits around 108–124 BPM, favors warm vintage tones (Roland drum machines, Juno/Jupiter/Prophet synths), and draws on disco and new wave for harmony and rhythm. Hooks are carried by concise vocal lines and ear‑catching motifs, often delivered with the intimate, conversational tone associated with indie music.

Filter house (often synonymous with the French Touch) is a substyle of house music built around heavily filtered disco and funk samples looped over a steady four-on-the-floor beat. Producers sweep low‑pass or high‑pass filters across the sample—opening and closing the cutoff to create a sense of tension and release—while sidechain compression makes the mix “pump” against the kick. The sound emphasizes catchy basslines, syncopated guitar chops or strings lifted from late-1970s/early-1980s records, and glossy, club‑ready drums. It’s both nostalgic and modern: vintage source material processed through contemporary dance-production techniques to deliver hooky, euphoric, dance‑floor moments.
