Christian trap is a faith-centered offshoot of trap and Christian hip hop that pairs 808-heavy drums, skittering hi-hats, and dark, atmospheric synths with explicitly Christian themes. It retains the rhythmic bounce, triplet flows, and modern vocal processing of mainstream trap while redirecting the lyrical focus toward testimony, spiritual struggles, hope, and worship. Producers often blend gospel harmony, choir textures, and scripture-inspired hooks with contemporary beatmaking, resulting in songs that can sit alongside secular trap sonically but feel uplifting and purpose-driven. The style is especially prominent in the streaming era, where playlists and online communities helped it flourish and reach younger church and campus audiences.

Christian hip hop (also called holy hip hop or gospel rap) is a form of hip hop whose lyrics explicitly reflect the Christian faith, including themes of scripture, testimony, hope, social justice, and discipleship. Musically it spans the same spectrum as mainstream hip hop—from classic boom‑bap to Southern trap and melodic pop‑rap—often blending church-leaning elements like gospel choirs, worship-style hooks, and positive, exhortative messaging. While it shares the rhythmic, vocal, and production grammar of hip hop, its center of gravity is theological and pastoral, aiming to edify believers and engage broader audiences without resorting to profanity or nihilism.

Gospel R&B is a fusion of contemporary rhythm-and-blues production with the lyrics, harmonies, and performance practices of Black church gospel. It features soulful lead vocals, rich call-and-response with choirs, and harmonically sophisticated progressions (extended 7ths/9ths, secondary dominants, and classic gospel turnarounds) set over modern R&B grooves. Production draws on drum machines and programmed bass, Rhodes/organ/piano, smooth guitars, and polished vocal stacks, often incorporating hip‑hop swing and occasional rap cameos. Thematically, the music centers on faith, testimony, perseverance, and praise, while communicating through hooks and arrangements familiar to urban and R&B radio audiences. The result is uplifting, radio-ready gospel that resonates both in church and on mainstream platforms.

Spoken word is a performance-centered genre where text—poems, monologues, stories, or manifestos—is delivered aloud with musicality in voice rather than through singing. It may be entirely a cappella or accompanied by sparse instrumentation (often jazz combos, ambient textures, or minimal electronics) that frames the cadence and rhetoric of the performer. The emphasis is on language: prosody, pacing, imagery, and argument. Pieces often explore personal narratives, social critique, and political themes, drawing on techniques such as internal rhyme, alliteration, and repetition. While recordings exist, the tradition is fundamentally live, prioritizing immediacy, audience engagement, and oratorical presence.
