Dolewave is a strand of Australian indie rock known for jangly, clean guitars, laconic and conversational vocals, and lyrics that linger on the small details of everyday suburban life. The songs often feel unhurried and unvarnished, balancing bittersweet nostalgia with wry humor. Production tends toward the DIY and lo‑fi: room sounds, modest mic techniques, and minimal studio polish underscore the music’s unpretentious character. Harmonies are simple but catchy—major keys, suspended chords, and ringing arpeggios—while tempos hover at a relaxed mid‑pace. The term "dolewave" began as a tongue‑in‑cheek label referencing Australia’s social welfare (“the dole”) and the music’s slacker, home‑recorded ethos. Despite the loaded nickname, the style has come to signify a specific Melbourne‑centred guitar pop sensibility steeped in jangle‑pop, the Dunedin sound, and slacker rock.

Comedy rap is a branch of hip hop that foregrounds humor, satire, and parody while using the rhythmic delivery, production aesthetics, and song structures of rap. Artists deploy punchlines, skits, meta-jokes, and exaggerated personas to poke fun at pop culture, social norms, and the genre itself. Musically it borrows from the full spectrum of hip hop production—from old‑school electro and boom‑bap to modern trap and pop‑rap—while lyrically prioritizing wit over menace or earnestness. Delivery can range from deadpan storytelling to theatrical character voices, and hooks often lean on catchy, singable choruses to heighten comedic payoff.

Comedy (as a music genre) comprises songs and recorded pieces designed primarily to make listeners laugh through parody, satire, wordplay, character voices, and situational humor. It often borrows the musical language of whatever is popular at the time—pop, rock, hip hop, folk, musical theatre—then subverts expectations with humorous lyrics, exaggerated performance, and sonic gags. Rooted in vaudeville and music hall traditions, comedy music ranges from novelty songs and topical ditties to elaborate pastiches and narrative sketches. It values comedic timing as much as musical craft, using hooks, rhyme, and arrangement to set up and deliver punchlines while remaining musically engaging.
