Stylistically, soundtrack is a meta-genre that can encompass orchestral symphonic writing, jazz, electronic and synth-driven textures, choral forces, popular song, and experimental sound design. Its defining trait is functional storytelling: themes, motifs, harmony, rhythm, and timbre are shaped by narrative needs, character psychology, pacing, and editing. Common features include leitmotifs for characters or ideas, modular cues that can be edited to picture, dynamic orchestration for dramatic range, and production approaches that sit well under dialogue and sound effects. Because it must synchronize to picture, soundtrack often uses clear dramatic arcs, tempo maps, and hit points.

Epic music is a modern, production-oriented orchestral style designed to evoke awe, scale, and cinematic impact. It fuses the language of film scores—soaring strings, heroic brass, thunderous percussion, and choir—with contemporary sound design such as braaams, risers, and hybrid electronic elements. Originally emerging from trailer-music houses, the genre prioritizes dramatic arcs and clear, escalating structures tailored to short-form media. Pieces often build from a low, pulsing ostinato to a towering climax with layered melodies, heavy drums, and choral chants, aiming to inspire, energize, or convey high stakes in a matter of minutes.

Pirate is a theatrical, folk-rooted style that centers on nautical lore, tavern singalongs, and the romanticized life of seafaring outlaws. It blends traditional sea shanties and Celtic folk instrumentation with contemporary folk-rock energy and a playful, comedic flair. Songs are typically driven by raucous group vocals, call-and-response hooks, and stomping rhythms suited to communal singing. Accordions, fiddles, concertinas, tin whistles, mandolins, bouzoukis, and bodhráns are common, while lyrics revel in adventure, rum, camaraderie, and maritime myth.
