Pumpcore is a hyper-energetic, gym-oriented microgenre that blends blown-out bass, sped-up hooks, and hard-hitting drops tailored for workout intensity and short-form video edits. It borrows from trap (and EDM-trap), phonk’s gritty timbres, hardstyle’s festival-scale builds, and nightcore-style acceleration, then pushes everything through aggressive saturation and sidechain “pump” to create a relentless, motivational surge. Tracks typically revolve around a memorable vocal or lead riff that has been time-stretched, pitch-shifted, and looped to maximize adrenaline and impact.

Modern hardtek is the polished, festival-ready evolution of French hardtek/tekno, characterized by fast tempos, oversized kick-bass design, and high-impact drops. It keeps the four-on-the-floor drive of tekno while adopting contemporary sound design, tighter arrangements, and louder, cleaner mastering. Typical BPM ranges from 170 to 190, with heavily distorted, punchy kicks, rolling basslines, razor-edged leads, and comedic or rave-coded vocal chops. Compared to 1990s/2000s free-party hardtek, the modern variant favors precision editing, EDM-style builds, and crowd-pleasing hooks while retaining the rebellious energy of the teknival movement.

Frenchcore is a high‑tempo subgenre of hardcore techno characterized by heavily distorted, punchy kick drums, straight 4/4 rhythms, and anthemic, often euphoric melodies. Its typical tempo ranges from about 180 to 210 BPM, with modern tracks frequently around 190–200 BPM. The signature sound is a hard, saturated kick with a short, clipped tail that drives the groove, accompanied by aggressive leads, rave stabs, and energetic risers. While rooted in the roughness of gabber and industrial hardcore, frenchcore often adds a melodic, even uplifting edge—sometimes drawing on classical motifs or emotional chord progressions—making it well suited for peak‑time festival moments as well as free‑party systems.

Terrorcore is an extreme offshoot of hardcore techno that emphasizes very high tempos, heavily distorted kick drums, and horror-themed aesthetics. Tracks typically run from roughly 190–230 BPM or faster, using clipped, overdriven 909-style kicks and harsh percussion to create a relentless, punishing sound. The genre draws on macabre imagery and sound design: eerie pads, atonal stabs, dissonant intervals, and samples from horror films, slashers, and news reports. Vocals—if present—are usually shouted, pitched-down, or sampled, serving texture more than narrative. Arrangement tends to be functional for dancefloors, with short breakdowns and abrupt, explosive drops that prioritize intensity over melodic development.

Speedcore is an extreme form of hardcore techno distinguished by exceedingly fast tempos—commonly 300 BPM and above—and an abrasive, aggressive sound palette. It emphasizes pounding, distorted kick drums (often from overdriven 909s), clipped transients, harsh noise textures, and confrontational sampling. Emerging in the early to mid‑1990s from European hardcore and gabber scenes, speedcore pushes rhythm and intensity beyond conventional dance‑floor boundaries. Tracks frequently feature relentless four‑on‑the‑floor kicks at double or quadruple time, interspersed with breakneck fills, industrial feedback, and horror or shock‑oriented samples. The style’s extremity spawned even faster micro‑styles such as splittercore and extratone.
