MC Fluup

Beat bruxaria (often called funk bruxaria) is a São Paulo‑born strain of Brazilian funk defined by aggressively distorted, high‑pitched sonics over skeletal, hard‑hitting percussion. Producers push the treble into piercing “tuin” tones while letting blown‑out subs and clipped claps carry a stark, marching groove. Arrangements are minimalist and stop‑start, using sudden silences, horror‑movie stabs, sirens, phone rings, radio snippets, and other found sounds to heighten tension. Vocals, when present, are typically chopped tags, barked ad‑libs, or brief MC phrases treated as rhythmic hits instead of full verses. The result is a deliberately abrasive, dancefloor‑oriented sound that warps baile funk’s energy into something darker and more cinematic, while remaining rooted in street‑party practicality and diversified, anything‑goes sampling.

Deep funk ostentação is a moody, late‑night variant of São Paulo’s funk ostentação, emphasizing deeper sub‑bass, sparse percussion, and atmospheric pads while retaining the genre’s themes of luxury, status, and upward mobility. Compared with the brighter, EDM‑leaning hits of ostentação in the early 2010s, the “deep” approach strips arrangements down to hypnotic tamborzão grooves, 808 low‑end, and minimal, minor‑key synth motifs. Vocals often sit closer to the beat, with autotune and chant‑like hooks, but the lyrical focus remains on conspicuous consumption (cars, brands, nightlife) filtered through a more introspective, nocturnal aesthetic.

Chill phonk is a mellow, atmospheric branch of phonk that softens the raw, gritty edges of 90s Memphis-inspired beats with lo‑fi warmth, dreamy pads, and spacious mixing. Instead of the high-octane, cowbell-driven aggression of drift phonk, chill phonk favors slower to mid‑tempo grooves, jazzy or soul‑leaning samples, deep but gentle 808 subs, and tape‑worn textures. Vocals—if present—are usually pitched down and treated with heavy reverb or delay, sitting more as ambience than as a commanding lead. The overall effect is nostalgic, nocturnal, and introspective: music made for late drives, study sessions, and quiet reflection while still retaining the head‑nod swing of Southern hip‑hop.

Funk bruxaria is a dark, occult-tinged microstyle of Brazilian baile funk that blends the raw, percussive drive of funk carioca with eerie sound design and gothic/witchy aesthetics. Producers favor minor modes, ominous pads, whispered or pitched-down vocal chops, ritual-like percussive cycles, and cinematic foley (bells, chimes, wind, thunder) to create a brooding, supernatural atmosphere over unmistakably dance-oriented funk rhythms. The result sits between the street energy of baile funk and the hazy, nocturnal mood of witch house and trap, often at 130–150 BPM (with frequent 150-BPM variants).

Funk mandelão is a minimalist, hard‑hitting branch of Brazilian funk that crystallized in São Paulo’s street party (fluxo) scene. It emphasizes a stripped, percussive groove with booming sub‑bass, clipped toms and rims, and shouted call‑and‑response vocals that command the dancefloor. Compared with Rio’s tamborzão-driven funk carioca, mandelão tends to sit a bit slower and heavier, favoring hypnotic repetition, stark spaces, and gritty saturation (“estouro”) that translates well on massive, bass-heavy sound systems. Producers often recycle short vocal chops and neighborhood shoutouts, building tension through micro-variations in drums, drops, and crowd‑engaging breaks.
