Chill Drill
Chill drill is a mellow, melodic offshoot of UK drill that keeps the style’s distinctive sliding 808s, syncopated hi-hats, and snare-on-3 placement, but softens the overall timbre and mood. Instead of ominous synths and harsh textures, it leans on airy pads, Rhodes pianos, gentle guitar loops, and lo‑fi ambience. Vocals tend to be more introspective and tuneful, with sing-rap hooks, laid-back cadences, and reflective lyric themes (romance, ambition, day-to-day life). The result bridges drill’s rhythmic identity with chillhop and lo‑fi hip hop’s relaxed atmosphere, creating tracks that are both groove-driven and easy to live with.

Native American Hip Hop
Native American hip hop refers to hip hop created by Indigenous peoples of the United States and Canada (including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis artists). It is not a single stylistic subgenre so much as a cultural and thematic current within hip hop, spanning boom‑bap, trap, alternative, and underground styles. Artists often braid traditional sounds—powwow drums, vocables, hand drums, cedar flutes, and round‑dance rhythms—into contemporary beats, while lyrics foreground sovereignty, language revitalization, land and water protection, life on and off the rez, historical trauma and survivance, and community pride. Because Native people have participated in all four elements of hip hop since its early years, the music’s sound palette and flows are as diverse as hip hop itself, even as the themes remain distinctly Indigenous. Historically, Native contributions were sometimes obscured under broad ethnic labels (e.g., being grouped as “Latino/Hispanic” in certain contexts), but the 1990s onward saw a visible wave of Native MCs and later a digitally native generation that uses hip hop as both art and activism.

Native American Music
Native American music encompasses the diverse vocal and instrumental traditions of the Indigenous peoples of North America. It is primarily voice-centered, with communal singing supported by large powwow drums, hand/frame drums, water drums, rattles, and the Native American flute. Melodies often use pentatonic or anhemitonic scales and feature terraced (descending) contour, vocables (non-lexical syllables) alongside texts in Indigenous languages, and cyclic repetition in sets of 4 (reflecting cultural symbolism). Music serves ceremonial, social, healing, and storytelling functions, and is inseparable from dance and regalia. While distinct regional styles exist (Plains powwow, Southwestern Pueblo/Navajo, Great Basin, Northwest Coast polyphony, Inuit throat singing, Southeastern stomp dance traditions), all emphasize community participation, spiritual intention, and strong rhythmic grounding. Contemporary scenes range from traditional powwow and peyote songs to modern fusions that respect traditional aesthetics while engaging new forms.
