Fake Problems

Orgcore is a tongue‑in‑cheek name for a strain of gruff, melodic punk that coalesced around DIY communities and web forums in the 2000s. Musically it blends the speed and bite of hardcore punk with big, heart‑on‑sleeve melodies, gravel‑throated vocals, and shout‑along choruses. Lyrically it favors working‑class realism, friendship and community, road‑worn touring life, and defiant optimism in the face of burnout. The sound is closely tied to the U.S. DIY circuit (notably Gainesville’s The Fest) and labels that prized no‑frills production and live energy. Expect tight down‑picked guitars, octave leads, driving bass, mid‑to‑fast 4/4 beats, and generous gang vocals designed for communal sing‑alongs.

Folk punk fuses the raw speed, attitude, and DIY ethos of punk with the acoustic instruments, storytelling, and melodic traditions of folk. It often features shouted sing‑alongs, gang vocals, and energetic strumming alongside fiddles, accordions, banjos, and acoustic guitars. Lyrically, the genre ranges from personal confessionals and working‑class narratives to pointed political critique and anti‑establishment themes. Production can be intentionally rough or lo‑fi, reflecting its busking roots and community‑first approach to performance.

Indie punk blends the urgency and economy of punk with the tunefulness, introspection, and DIY aesthetics of indie rock. Songs are short, hook-driven, and guitar-forward, but they typically privilege wit, heart, and personality over virtuosity or gloss. Production is often raw or deliberately lo‑fi, guitars are overdriven rather than hyper‑distorted, and vocals lean toward shout‑sung sincerity. Compared with pop punk, indie punk tends to be less polished and more lyrically nuanced; compared with classic indie rock, it is faster, louder, and more kinetic while retaining melodic focus and a strong DIY ethos.
