Black 'n' Roll
Black 'n' roll is a hybrid of second-wave black metal aesthetics and the swagger, groove, and hooks of classic rock and roll and hard rock. It keeps black metal’s rasped vocals, minor-key riffing, and grim atmosphere, but replaces relentless blast beats with mid-tempo 4/4 stomps, d-beat and punk-derived grooves, and blues-tinged, pentatonic-leaning guitar licks. Songs are more verse–chorus oriented, riffs are simpler and more driving, and production often favors a raw, overdriven, garage-like bite rather than cavernous ambience. Lyrically and visually it blends misanthropy, occult and nocturnal themes with biker/bar-room attitude and sleaze, yielding a sound that feels both menacing and fist-pumping.

Black Thrash
Black thrash (often called blackened thrash) fuses the speed, palm‑muted riffing, and precision of thrash metal with the raw timbre, tremolo picking, and satanic/occult aesthetics of first‑wave black metal. Sonically, it emphasizes cutting high‑gain guitars, relentless skank and d‑beats alternating with blasts, and rasped or barked vocals. Production tends toward a raw, live feel rather than glossy polish, keeping cymbals sizzling and guitars serrated. Lyrically and visually it leans into blasphemy, warfare, apocalypse, and leather‑and‑spikes iconography. The result is a feral, high‑velocity style that feels both old‑school and extreme: riff‑centric like thrash, but grim and caustic like black metal.

Heavy Metal
Heavy metal is a loud, guitar-driven style of rock defined by heavily distorted riffs, thunderous drums, and powerful vocals. Its musical language emphasizes minor modes, modal (Aeolian, Phrygian) riffing, and energy over groove, often featuring virtuosic guitar solos and dramatic dynamic contrasts. Emerging from late-1960s blues rock and psychedelic experimentation, heavy metal codified a darker, heavier sound with bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin. The genre values weight, intensity, and grandeur—whether through plodding, doom-laden tempos or galloping, high-energy rhythms—paired with themes that range from personal struggle and social critique to fantasy, mythology, and the occult.

Punk
Punk is a fast, abrasive, and minimalist form of rock music built around short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and confrontational, anti-establishment lyrics. It emphasizes DIY ethics, raw energy, and immediacy over virtuosity, often featuring distorted guitars, shouted or sneered vocals, and simple, catchy melodies. Typical songs run 1–3 minutes, sit around 140–200 BPM, use power chords and basic progressions (often I–IV–V), and favor live, unpolished production. Beyond sound, punk is a cultural movement encompassing zines, independent labels, political activism, and a fashion vocabulary of ripped clothes, leather, and safety pins.

Rock
Rock is a broad family of popular music centered on amplified instruments, a strong backbeat, and song forms that foreground riffs, choruses, and anthemic hooks. Emerging from mid‑20th‑century American styles like rhythm & blues, country, and gospel-inflected rock and roll, rock quickly expanded in scope—absorbing folk, blues, and psychedelic ideas—while shaping global youth culture. Core sonic markers include electric guitar (often overdriven), electric bass, drum kit emphasizing beats 2 and 4, and emotive lead vocals. Rock songs commonly use verse–chorus structures, blues-derived harmony, and memorable melodic motifs, ranging from intimate ballads to high‑energy, stadium‑sized performances.
