Country is a roots-based popular music from the rural American South that blends Anglo-Celtic ballad traditions with African American blues, gospel, and string-band dance music. Across a century, country has evolved through substyles like honky-tonk, the Nashville and Bakersfield sounds, outlaw country, neotraditionalist revivals, pop-country, and country-rap hybrids, but it consistently prioritizes storytelling about everyday life, love, work, faith, place, and identity.

Folk is a song-centered acoustic tradition rooted in community storytelling, everyday life, and social history. It emphasizes clear melodies, simple harmonies, and lyrics that foreground narrative, protest, and personal testimony. As a modern recorded genre, folk coalesced in the early-to-mid 20th century in the United States out of older ballad, work song, and rural dance traditions. It typically features acoustic instruments (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica), strophic song forms, and participatory singing (choruses, call-and-response).

Christian (often shortened to Christian music or CCM in market terms) is an umbrella genre for popular and worship-oriented music whose lyrics explicitly express the Christian faith. It blends contemporary songwriting and production with devotional intent, ranging from pop and rock to folk, country, and modern worship anthems designed for congregational singing. While rooted in centuries of church music and hymnody, the modern "Christian" genre coalesced in the late 1960s United States with the Jesus Movement, later building its own labels, radio networks, and touring circuits. Today it includes radio-friendly CCM, stadium worship, youth-focused pop/rock, and stylistic fusions that carry Christian themes into nearly every mainstream style.

Praise is a contemporary branch of Christian gospel music centered on exuberant, congregational songs of thanksgiving and celebration. It emphasizes upbeat grooves, call-and-response between leader and choir/congregation, and memorable refrains designed for corporate participation. Stylistically, praise draws on modern gospel, R&B, soul, and pop production. Songs often feature rhythm-section drive, handclaps on the backbeat, bright choir voicings, and dynamic key changes that elevate energy. Lyric content is declarative and God-focused—expressing gratitude, victory, and joy—rather than contemplative or meditative. In church practice, “praise” commonly denotes the high-energy portion of a service (often paired with a slower “worship” segment). In recordings and live albums, it overlaps with contemporary gospel and CCM but is distinct in its celebratory tempo, danceable feel, and congregational call.
