Gypsy Punk
Gypsy punk is a high-energy fusion of Eastern European/Romani folk traditions and Western punk-rock attitude. It combines the fast tempos, power-chord drive, and DIY ethos of punk with violins, accordions, brass, and dance rhythms drawn from Romani, Balkan, and klezmer repertoires. Songs often feature off-kilter meters (such as 7/8 or 9/8), melodic ornaments, and modes like harmonic minor and Phrygian dominant, while maintaining chantable choruses, gang vocals, and raucous stage theatrics. Lyrically, it embraces themes of migration, identity, resistance, and celebration, frequently delivered in multilingual vocals that reflect diasporic experience.

Folk Punk
Folk punk fuses the raw speed, attitude, and DIY ethos of punk with the acoustic instruments, storytelling, and melodic traditions of folk. It often features shouted sing‑alongs, gang vocals, and energetic strumming alongside fiddles, accordions, banjos, and acoustic guitars. Lyrically, the genre ranges from personal confessionals and working‑class narratives to pointed political critique and anti‑establishment themes. Production can be intentionally rough or lo‑fi, reflecting its busking roots and community‑first approach to performance.

Polka
Polka is a lively Central European couple dance and musical style in a brisk 2/4 meter, characterized by its buoyant “oom‑pah” bass-chord accompaniment and bright, diatonic melodies. Originating in Bohemia (today’s Czech Republic) in the early 19th century, it quickly became a pan-European craze before taking root across immigrant communities in the Americas. Ensembles typically feature accordion or button box/concertina, clarinet or saxophone, trumpets/trombone, tuba or string bass, and drum kit, with regional variants highlighting different lead voices and rhythmic feels. While the classical ballroom tradition codified polka into formal strains (often AABB with a contrasting trio), folk and popular styles favor singable tunes, simple I–IV–V harmonies, and tempos commonly around 115–135 BPM, inviting upbeat social dancing and communal celebration.
