Solomon Islands pop is a contemporary popular music from the Solomon Islands that blends island reggae backbeats, tender R&B hooks, and modern pop songwriting with local languages and Pacific vocal harmony. Built around skanking guitars, relaxed one‑drop or dancehall‑leaning drum patterns, and sun‑washed melodies, it foregrounds romance, togetherness, and island life. Lyrics often move fluidly between English, Solomon Islands Pijin, and vernacular languages, giving the music a distinctly Melanesian character while remaining radio‑friendly and highly shareable online.

Kaneka is a contemporary popular music of the Kanak people of New Caledonia that emerged in the 1980s. It fuses reggae’s off‑beat guitar and heavy bass with zouk’s danceable 4/4 pulse, modern pop production, and traditional Kanak vocal polyphony. Songs are commonly performed in Kanak languages (such as Drehu, Nengone, Paicî) as well as in French, and often feature call‑and‑response choruses. Instrumentation typically includes electric guitars, bass, drum kit or drum machines, keyboards, and hand percussion, with layered backing vocals that reference ceremonial and community singing. Lyrically, kaneka frequently addresses social life, love, cultural pride, and the archipelago’s political realities, making it both a dance music and a vehicle for identity and storytelling.

Melanesian pop is a contemporary popular music of the southwest Pacific—centered on Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Fiji—that blends local string‑band traditions and communal harmonies with reggae, dancehall, calypso/soca grooves, and global pop songwriting. Songs are typically mid‑tempo, romantic, and danceable, with lilting off‑beat guitar “skanks,” warm melodic bass lines, and close vocal harmonies sung in regional lingua francas (Tok Pisin, Solomon Islands Pijin, Bislama) as well as Fijian and other local languages. Modern productions add synth pads, drum machines, and occasional rap verses while retaining village‑party instrumentation (acoustic guitars, ukulele, bamboo or log drums). The result is an instantly recognizable island pop feel—bright, melodic, and communal—rooted in Melanesian social life yet connected to wider Caribbean and global pop currents.
