Christian metalcore is a faith-based branch of metalcore that combines the genre’s heavy, breakdown-driven sound with explicitly Christian themes. Musically, it keeps the core metalcore toolkit—palm-muted riffing, syncopated breakdowns, alternating harsh and clean vocals, and tight, modern production—while often leaning into melodic hooks and anthemic choruses. Lyrically, it tends to focus on spiritual struggle, redemption, perseverance, worshipful affirmation, and testimony, sometimes framed as personal battles with doubt, sin, or suffering rather than overt preaching.

Melodic metalcore blends the harmonized guitar leads and minor-key melodicism of Gothenburg-style melodic death metal with the breakdown-heavy aggression and song structures of metalcore. It is characterized by dual vocal approaches that alternate between harsh screams and soaring clean choruses, along with tightly palm-muted riffs and double-kick driven drumming. Typical arrangements feature verse–pre-chorus–chorus structures, with a post-chorus hook, a melodic guitar solo, and a climactic breakdown. Tunings are often dropped (Drop C, Drop B, or lower), and guitar parts favor harmonized lines in thirds, pedal-point riffs, and modal color from Aeolian and Phrygian. Lyrical themes usually focus on resilience, introspection, personal struggle, and catharsis.

Christian metal (sometimes called "white metal") is a form of heavy metal defined primarily by its Christian lyrical content and worldview rather than by a single, unified sound. Musically, it mirrors the broader metal spectrum: from classic and glam-influenced heavy metal, to thrash, power, doom, death, and metalcore. Expect high-gain guitar riffs, driving rhythm sections, and vocal approaches that range from soaring melodic hooks to harsh screams, depending on the substyle. Lyrically, themes include faith, redemption, spiritual struggle, hope, social concerns approached from a Christian perspective, and occasionally direct scripture references or evangelistic messages. Scenes often coalesce around church-based venues, faith-oriented festivals, and dedicated labels, while many bands also operate in mainstream metal circuits.
