Grave Wave
Grave wave is a modern, goth-leaning strain of darkwave and synth-driven post-punk that emerged in the early 2010s. It blends the icier textures of 1980s coldwave and minimal wave with pulsing drum machines, brooding basslines, and spectral vocals drenched in reverb. The style favors analog and retro-styled synthesizers, chorus-laden guitars, and tightly programmed rhythms that evoke nocturnal cityscapes, underground clubs, and cinematic horror aesthetics. Lyrically it leans toward themes of alienation, desire, memory, and the uncanny—often delivered in low, detached croons or ethereal whispers. Sonically, grave wave sits between darkwave and synth-pop: more driving and danceable than pure coldwave, but more shadowy and melancholic than mainstream synth-pop. Its atmosphere is moody yet propulsive, making it equally at home on a dim dancefloor or in headphones on a late-night walk.

Deathrock
Deathrock is a dark, theatrical offshoot of punk that emerged in the early 1980s, characterized by ominous atmospheres, tom-heavy “tribal” drumming, chorus-soaked basslines, and reverb-drenched guitar. It blends the immediacy and DIY aggressiveness of punk rock with the bleak textures and minor-key melodicism of post-punk and early gothic rock, often drawing visual inspiration from horror cinema and macabre cabaret. Vocals range from plaintive and haunted to snarling and declamatory, while lyrics explore themes of death, alienation, ritual, and romantic morbidity. The production favors raw edges, spring/plate reverbs, and room ambience over polish.

Ebm
Electronic Body Music (EBM) is a post-industrial dance music style that fuses the stark textures and aesthetics of industrial and synth‑punk with propulsive, club‑ready rhythms. Built on sequenced, repetitive basslines, rigid 4/4 kick patterns, and clipped, military‑tight percussion, EBM favors mostly undistorted, barked or chanted vocals and confrontational, sometimes political or provocative themes. Its sound is physical and kinetic—designed for bodies on the dance floor—yet retains the minimalist, machine‑driven discipline of early industrial and new wave electronics.

Synth Punk
Synth punk is a raw, high‑energy fusion of punk’s velocity and attitude with the abrasive, synthetic timbres of analog keyboards, drum machines, and noise gear. Instead of guitar-driven riffs, synth punk typically foregrounds distorted monosynth bass lines, cheap combo organs, or primitive sequencers pounding out repetitive patterns at punk tempos. Vocals are often shouted, sneered, or delivered deadpan; lyrics skewer consumer culture, media saturation, technology, and urban alienation. Production values tend toward the minimal and DIY: overdriven inputs, tape saturation, room mics, and purposeful crudity. The result is a confrontational, mechanical churn—danceable yet hostile—that helped open a direct line between punk, early industrial, and later synth-oriented underground scenes.
