Braindance
Braindance is a playful, umbrella term popularized by the Rephlex Records camp (co‑founded by Aphex Twin and Grant Wilson‑Claridge) to describe a strain of adventurous electronic music that fuses the tunefulness of classic synth and acid with the rhythmic complexity of IDM and breakbeat science. Rather than a rigid genre, it’s a sensibility: hyper-detailed drum programming, rubbery 303 basslines, luminous pads, and left-field melodic twists, often delivered with a mischievous sense of humor. Braindance is club-aware yet listening-forward—designed to move the body and tickle the brain in equal measure.

Ethereal Wave
Ethereal wave is a branch of post-punk/gothic-adjacent alternative music defined by shimmering, reverb-saturated textures, airborne vocal delivery, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere over aggression. It often features chorus- or delay-drenched guitars that blur into pad-like harmonies, minimal or programmed percussion, and bass lines that drift rather than drive. Vocals—frequently female-led—tend toward breathy, angelic timbres, melismatic phrasing, non-lexical vocalise, and poetic or impressionistic lyrics. Harmonies favor modal or diatonic palettes with suspensions and added tones (sus2, sus4, add9), producing a weightless, bittersweet feel. The overall production aesthetic, popularized by 4AD acts, evokes a dreamlike, otherworldly space that can lean medieval, ambient, or neoclassical depending on the artist.

Classic Rock
Classic rock is a radio-defined umbrella for mainstream, guitar-centered rock music from the mid-1960s through the 1980s. It emphasizes blues-based riffs, memorable choruses, sturdy backbeats, and prominent guitar solos, often framed by warm, analog production. Rather than being a single stylistic branch, classic rock curates a canon that spans hard rock, blues rock, folk rock, psychedelic and progressive strains, and heartland- and country-tinged rock. Albums and album-oriented rock (AOR) values—extended tracks, conceptual cohesion, and musicianship—are central to its identity. The sound evokes tube-amp crunch, Hammond organs, stacked vocal harmonies, and anthemic songwriting designed for both FM radio and the concert arena.
