Slaskie piosenki (Silesian songs), often referred to as 'śląskie szlagiery' (Silesian schlagers), is a popular music genre from the Upper Silesia region of Poland. It blends traditional Silesian folk music with German Schlager, polka, and pop elements. The lyrics are almost exclusively sung in the Silesian dialect (godka) and focus on themes of regional identity, family life, coal mining traditions, love, and the joys of everyday life. The music is characterized by simple, catchy melodies, a strong rhythmic pulse suitable for dancing (often 2/4 or 3/4 time), and instrumentation that frequently includes accordions, brass sections (or synthesizers mimicking them), and guitars.

Folk is a song-centered acoustic tradition rooted in community storytelling, everyday life, and social history. It emphasizes clear melodies, simple harmonies, and lyrics that foreground narrative, protest, and personal testimony. As a modern recorded genre, folk coalesced in the early-to-mid 20th century in the United States out of older ballad, work song, and rural dance traditions. It typically features acoustic instruments (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica), strophic song forms, and participatory singing (choruses, call-and-response).
