Indie cristão (Portuguese for “Christian indie”) designates Brazil’s independent Christian scene that blends the aesthetics, production ethos, and guitar‑driven textures of indie/alternative with faith‑centered, often poetic lyrics. Rather than congregational anthems, many releases are reflective and authorial, drawing on Brazilian popular idioms (MPB, reggae) as readily as on Anglo‑American indie rock. Examples frequently cited include the alternative/Christian rock of Palavrantiga (formed by the former band of Heloisa Rosa), the gaúcho alternative of Tanlan, and the MPB‑tinged, reggae‑inflected songwriting of Crombie.
