Bardcore
Bardcore is an internet-born microgenre in which contemporary pop, hip hop, and rock songs are reimagined as if performed by medieval or early Renaissance minstrels. Arrangements typically substitute modern instrumentation with lutes, harps, recorders, hurdy-gurdies, rebecs, shawms, hand drums, and choir-like vocals, while adapting melodies and harmonies to modal idioms (Dorian, Aeolian, Mixolydian). Lyrics are often translated into faux Middle English or archaic diction, and mixes are treated with intimate, stone-room reverbs to evoke a historical ambience. The result is a playful blend of historical pastiche and modern earworms that embraces both meme culture and early-music aesthetics.

Lo-Fi Sleep
Lo-fi sleep is a soothing microstyle of lo-fi hip hop and ambient music designed for restful listening, unwinding, and falling asleep. It favors very soft transients, muted high frequencies, gentle tape-style saturation, and sparse harmonies. Drums (if present) are subdued and often brushy, with tempos typically in the 55–80 BPM range. Common sound elements include vinyl crackle, pink/brown noise beds, rain or night ambience, and mellow Rhodes/piano or guitar voicings. The overall aesthetic prioritizes calm, predictable loops, long decays, and minimal arrangement changes to avoid startling the listener and to promote relaxation and sleep continuity.

Medieval
Medieval music refers to the diverse sacred and secular musical practices of Europe between the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the dawn of the Renaissance. It spans more than eight centuries, from early monophonic chant to the first notated polyphony. Core features include the use of church modes rather than major/minor, extensive reliance on vocal music (Latin sacred chant as well as vernacular song), and the progressive development from unmeasured chant to rhythmic modal notation and, later, mensural notation. Texture evolves from monophony (plainchant, troubadour songs) to organum, conductus, and the motet, culminating in complex isorhythmic works by the late 13th–14th centuries. Secular traditions—troubadours and trouvères in France, Minnesänger in German lands, and the Iberian Cantigas—coexisted with and influenced sacred practice. Instruments such as the vielle, harp, psaltery, recorder, shawm, hurdy-gurdy, and portative organ often doubled or accompanied voices, though much music remained purely vocal.
