Gothic post-punk is a dark, atmospheric branch of post-punk that emphasizes moody tonality, dramatic vocal delivery, and spacious, effects-heavy guitars. It typically combines post-punk’s angular rhythms and bass-forward grooves with gothic aesthetics: somber lyric themes, minor-key harmony, and a sense of theatrical melancholy. The sound often features prominent melodic basslines, chorus/flanger-treated guitars, tom-heavy or motorik-influenced drums, and reverberant production that creates a cold, cavernous ambience.
