This Is It

Egg punk is a lo‑fi, synth‑laced, jittery offshoot of punk that embraces awkwardness, absurdist humor, and devolved futurism. It tends to favor short, tightly wound songs driven by springy bass, trebly guitars, cheap drum machines, and buzzing monosynths, with nasal or deadpan vocals. The sound references first‑wave new wave and Devo‑style art punk as much as it does budget garage punk, swapping macho toughness for geeky, rubbery energy. Releases are typically DIY—4‑track or cassette‑recorded—and circulate through small labels, Bandcamp, and tape trades.

Modern power pop is a contemporary take on the hook-forward, guitar-driven style first codified in the late 1960s and 1970s. It emphasizes bright melodies, vocal harmonies, ringing guitars, and concise song forms. In contrast to classic power pop, the modern wave folds in 1990s alternative rock sheen, post-punk tightness, and studio polish, often pairing crunchy rhythm guitars with chiming leads, elastic bass lines, and instantly memorable choruses. Lyrically, it frequently centers on bittersweet romance, everyday vignettes, and wry observational storytelling. Production tends to be punchy yet clean, with layered harmonies, doubled guitars, and earworm top-lines designed for radio- and playlist-friendly impact.
