Sirmauri Pop
Sirmauri pop is a contemporary regional pop style sung primarily in Sirmauri (a Western Pahari language) and produced by artists from the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It blends local folk song forms and dance rhythms with the textures and songcraft of Indian pop and Bollywood, using modern digital production (synths, 808s, programmed drums) alongside timbres associated with Himachali folk ensembles (dhol/nagara, shehnai, bansuri, karnal/ranasingha). Lyrically, it moves between light romance, celebrations of rural life and seasonal change, and devotional pieces for local deities—typical of the region’s cultural calendar and temple-fair circuits. In practice it is a grassroots, YouTube-first scene: singles and videos circulate rapidly on local channels and WhatsApp networks, wedding bands double as studio teams, and DJs create dance-forward remixes that keep village events and fairgrounds moving.
