Melodic rap is a style of hip hop that prioritizes sung or sing‑rap cadences, tuneful hooks, and emotive toplines over strictly percussive flows. It blends trap‑based drum programming and 808 sub‑bass with pop‑leaning melodies, R&B harmonies, and heavy use of Auto‑Tune as an expressive effect rather than mere pitch correction. Themes often address love, heartbreak, aspiration, loneliness, and personal struggle, delivered with catchy refrains designed for streaming‑era replayability.

Trap is a subgenre of hip hop that emerged from the Southern United States, defined by half-time grooves, ominous minor-key melodies, and the heavy use of 808 sub-bass. The style is characterized by rapid, syncopated hi-hat rolls, crisp rimshot/clap on the backbeat, and cinematic textures that convey tension and grit. Lyrically, it centers on street economies, survival, ambition, and introspection, with ad-libs used as percussive punctuation. Production is typically minimal but hard-hitting: layered 808s, sparse piano or bell motifs, dark pads, and occasional orchestral or choir samples. Vocals range from gravelly, staccato deliveries to melodic, Auto-Tuned flows, often using triplet cadences.

Miami hip hop is the rap tradition that emerged from Miami and South Florida, distinguished by subwoofer-rattling low end, chantable hooks, and a party-forward sensibility that grew alongside the city’s club and car-audio cultures. Rooted in the 808-heavy sound of Miami bass and shaped by East Coast lyricism, Southern swagger, and Latin/Caribbean diasporas, the scene spans from Luke-led booty-shake anthems to the gritty street narratives of Trick Daddy and Rick Ross, and the bilingual, pop-leaning crossover hits of Pitbull and Trina. In recent years, it has also intersected with the internet-born South Florida wave, keeping the region’s sound both club-ready and continually evolving.
